Do you know what allergies are? In this blog, we are going to teach you about them and their types.
Allergies are a response of our immune system against substances in our environment that are not normally seen as a threat, meaning, to us they are unlikely to affect us. However, when it happens, our system is in charge of reacting against the attack, causing signs and symptoms that can affect our respiratory tract, sinuses, nostrils, skin, and digestive system.
Today we will talk about allergies and their most common types on the skin:
Contact dermatitis:
This pathology occurs when there is direct contact with the allergen and manifests itself with reddening of the skin, itching, and peeling of the skin in the affected area.
These allergies are so frequent that there are many cosmetic or hygiene products that have components that prevent this type of reaction.
Atopic dermatitis:
It is generated by genetics and is identified by the appearance of a rash and itching on the skin. It is scientifically proven that those who have or have had family members diagnosed with atopic dermatitis are more likely to suffer from face and body allergies depending on their age.
Hives:
they are a skin rash and it shows up with welts and intense itching. This allergy is a reaction to certain foods, medications, parasites, or animal bites.
If you consider that you have any of these symptoms, keep in mind that dermatologists recommend performing an allergen identification test if the allergies do not stop as the days go by, since in these cases it is likely that infectious cellulitis will be generated that must be treated by professionals.
Angioedema:
this allergy is very similar to hives, except that instead of appearing on the surface of the skin, it occurs below the surface, and when it appears most of the time it is in the area of the eyes and lips. This type of allergy is short-lived, it can disappear in a day and leave no collateral damage depending on the area, if the swelling occurs on the tongue or throat it can block the airways.
